Bobby. Story of my life
I know. Two posts in the space of moments. I've had a craptastic day of craptastic proportions so it seems like a cure or something.

So. Bobby. What's going on? I've had a couple of discussions and I've seen some theories.

I feel a poll is required to settle this once and for all. (well, for the moment anyway...*g*)

Poll #1789857 Bobby. Oh Bobby.

What's up with Bobby?

What?! What are you talking about?
3(16.7%)
He's been through so much, losing his house is just another nail. He's taking it in his stride.
1(5.6%)
Nothing. The writer's just stuffed up his reaction.
6(33.3%)
He's a leviathan.
2(11.1%)
He's a variation of the Big Bad (one we don't know of yet).
3(16.7%)
Are you kidding? I have to THINK about this stuff?!
1(5.6%)
Something else I'll mention in the comments.

I want to tick so many 'cause I'm just so not sure! Argh!

Hee! I didn't add "I'm just don't know!" as an option...

I did toy with "Too hard basket"..

But yeah. So hard to know. I hate to think they've screwed up, or just made Bobby able to cope. I really want something else dun dun duuuunnnnn.

The leviathans don't seem that they are on board for the Winchesters as "the key to everything" like the demons were. (the statements this show makes me write!) So I'd imagine that if Bobby was a leviathan, he would have just killed them in the cabin, especially when Dean was busy.

Methinks the writers just don't want him front row and center right now....which actually works for me. The boys depend on him too much.

See... I remember when I was all "there's got to be something more to Sam than him just being soulless" and you're like.. "no, actually soulless is pretty big on it's own so that's probably all there is...".

So I'm going to take heed now. *g* That they don't want him front and centre works for me. Though I think it's a cop out that they didn't do more with the loss of his house and have addressed where he actually was during the burning of his house. He was heading back there after all...

Arghhh... I don't know. I figure it's nothing and yet there's this niggling....

Bobby confuses me. :)

When I first saw him, I thought 'Leviathan! Hobble, Dean! Hobble! Hit it with a crutch!' But ... well, that doesn't make much sense with what we know of the Leviathans. They're pragmatists who are still learning about the world - and eager to eliminate opposition.

I can construct scenarios where it might make sense for him to be a Leviathan - they could be using Sam and Dean as lab rats, setting one agent to persecute them and another to watch them to see what hunters do, which would at least be in line with the kind of American Gods-style long con that Supernatural favours ... but if they actually had Bobby you'd think they'd want to press their advantage and just run through his list of contacts while no one had any idea how to fight them.

And if he's something else, then ... what? Something else that got out of purgatory?

But then again, the whole set up that placed him at home when the Leviathans attacked seems too good to waste ...

At the moment I think I have to go with 'continuity glitch', as the simplest explanation, but really I just lack reasonable evidence. I need more data! Hurry up, episodes! :)
26th-Oct-2011 02:59 pm (UTC)
Ha! Yes! Hurry up episodes. Give us more hints. I read somewhere that Dean's reaction in the last episode, when he was talking on the phone to Bobby, where he said "Winchester" was evidence that it wasn't really Bobby. (man.. I hope you can make sense of that sentence..). I found that curious - though I doubt actually evidence to him not being Bobby.

I could (maybe) go with him being an infiltrator of sorts. Get the mighty Winchesters on side etc. Find their weakness etc. But ...nah. Seems far fetched. Even for SPN.

I'm thinking continuity also. Being the first ep to be shot. Though it disappoints me that it wasn't considered. That no one said...what about Bobby and a moment to consider his house, memories, belongings etc.

But then again. We live in the "real" world and they live in a 'verse that is pretty inconceivable.

When there was the big hulabaloo about people acting out of character in 7.03, I thought the only one who was kind of off was Bobby. After last season I'm so used to second guessing characters and behavior that I immediately wondered what was up with him. We didn't get the conversation about Dean threatening suicide/murder or "I'm bummed my house burned down, I was a. in the panic room, b. getting more beer, c. hanging with the Sheriff, d. trying to start my car, e. all of the above when it happened."

I don't think the Leviathans have adjusted so well to be able to pass for Bobby yet. Even though the main dude has Cas's thoughts and knowledge, he was missing plenty of info about Bobby too. I wouldn't rule anything else out. I hope it's just the writing and Sam and Dean aren't forced to go after him. I think that would knock the last pin out of whatever is holding Dean together. It would take a lot of the fun out of the show for me if he were to go. I've seen speculation that he's God, and just...no.
26th-Oct-2011 03:18 pm (UTC)
I think that's it. we didn't get the conversation. Where were you? How did you escape? Do you care about your house and stuff?

If it's nothing then it would have been nice to at least had a nod to what actually happened. I reckon the writer's know that the fan base is invested in Bobby so would want some sort of explanation.

Or, they're deliberately left it alone to build up to something else.

Hee... God? Really? I think we've gone beyond that now. They never answered the question about God which I think works just fine.

We shall see I suppose. (And YES... they CAN NOT LOSE BOBBY! That would be the last straw. I gotta say though.. I wouldn't put it past them...

Excuse my answer. lol. (Are you kidding?..) But there are so many possibilities and so little to go on. I'll just wait for what happens and if we get more clues. *shuts down brain* ;D

Edited because I shut down my brain before choosing the right icon. :P

I voted for writer malfunction or rather I would have voted for - expectations of what I want to happen and when they don't I get pissed option, but mentioning in comments covers you for all that doesn't it?

I would really like there to be something, a real deep exciting plot twist I could never imagine, but I'm way past hoping, done that, didn't even get a T shirt, so I'm just along for the ride on most episodes now...although I kind of wonder if a tiny bit of Cas is left around in Bobby? They did soul!meld...but mostly I try not to think about it.

Anyway, I'm sorry you had another craptastic day hon, that's exhausting, hope things look up soon.

Thanks hun. Things seem to snowball when things are not going so well. I figure I get through this week and all will be well again. :D

And YES! The more I think about it the less likely there is some hidden plot twist. Great if there was... but, yeah. Nah.

We shall see I suppose. :D

Historically, SN doesn't show us the 'how things are done' very often. They usually leave it to our imagination. After all, how excatly did Sam and Dean get out of those tied up chairs in the Christmas episode? How did Sam escape being blown up with Gordon? Etc, etc. I think it is just one of those things that wasn't important enough to them to explain it to us. Chaulk it up to how good Bobby is :P Logically, he stopped in to check on the sheriff. That is what I think anyways.

I also think he was tormenting Dean last week when he asked 'Dean who?' That would be his sense of humor. Especially if after Bobby answered, Dean went 'Bobby?' as if it could have been anyone else :P LOL!

I wouldn't read too much into it. They really don't use Bobby that much and his reactions are only shown to us when it suits what they want to talk about at the time. I was surprised to see him as much as we have.

And maybe I'm still bitter about his 'Dean being his favorite' comment and don't care where he is :P I don't want someone around who has an obvious fave :P LOL!!!
26th-Oct-2011 11:11 pm (UTC)
Yeah. I agree - they don't always show what happened. It's disappointing in this case because I think they really swept Bobby and his character under the carpet with this. I can't even figure why they had to burn his house down. It hasn't changed or achieved anything. If it meant they were without resources and a home base then I could understand it maybe..but for it just to happen?! (Which is why I thought there might be more to it).

I also agree that the "Dean Who" was his sense of humour. I actually loved that line. It's very Bobby actually. :)

Ooooh and I missed the "Dean being his favourite" comment. Ouch. That sucks. I mean. :koff: how can Sammy not be everyone's favourite?!

I have zero theories so I just ticked one to see the results of the poll:P

At the very least I don't believe he's a Leviathan - that makes no sense whatsoever. Something is definitely off with him though, I just don't know whether that's us being overly suspicious, or we have every reason to be?
It's a bit of a snafu on the writers to leave plot points hanging though (ie. house burning down).

27th-Oct-2011 04:09 am (UTC)
Hee!

I know! They are so good at leaving these massive plot holes. Or leaving things unanswered and it's hard to know if it's deliberate or that they just didn't think it was worth making a big deal of it.

Each time we get a new episode I hope it will shed some answers. Usually it just creates more.

So I picked the first poll choice but then i wanted to go with the last choice and then the second last choice but it's funny how polls don't let you choose more than one option ;-)

I seriously have had ZERO thoughts in my head about Bobby's behavior even being remotely suspect. *sigh* seriously? He could be a leviathan? Oh come on now (said in Deans grumpiest youngest man voice ever). I mean I know there was talk about removing ALL the Winchesters go to sources for safety but surely Bobby's house is sufficient right?

And now I'm gonna be watching him suspiciously dammit. There I was all tra lalala about Bobby and well thank goodness he's there for the boys because with Sam hallucinating and dean alcoholating plus guilting and grumping they certainly need his nurturing ass kicking calming influence. But no. Now I'm gonna be giving him the squinty eyed glare of suspicion.

Is our show not stressfully intense enough people? Yeah the hits keep on coming but do ALL of them have to be nuclear sized? I've decided you all have a much too doom and gloom outlook on the Bobby front. I shall scrub my mind clean of this post, stick my fingers in my ears and go back to Tralalala-ing on the Bobby front. Those of you who are clearly suspicious? Carry on. More power to you and your epic stress level tolerance. I admit to being a baby and a wuss and will happily go play in the oblivious corner over here LOL!

Ta Ta my dears!

HA!!! Oh hun... :D

See... I keep seeing these little hints when people write stuff. Like... "well, once we find out what's wrong with Bobby" and "Something's off with Bobby"... and it starts to make my brain itch so of course I HAVE TO post about it.. :DDD

As soon as Bobby arrive at the hospital I was suspicious. Just couldn't help it. But I'm pretty sure it's nothing. Just...ack! I want more from his house being destroyed..

Hee... back to that corner you go. (Until we find out that there IS something wrong of course... *g*)

I responded with what I wish, that the Bobby we're seeing is part of the big bad, rather than what I fear, that either the writers messed up or the part of the ep that showed his reaction was cut for time in order to get on with the plot.
30th-Oct-2011 03:10 am (UTC)
Hey! Sorry for the late reply. Not sure if you've seen new ep so I won't say anything... ;)

28th-Oct-2011 12:15 pm (UTC) - Am I allowed to spoil episodes?
I think that there is a Levi!Bobby who may very well be the boss hence Sam's ID being made. However based upon the vague spoilers I've heard about 7.06 ... well yea I think original!Bobby is somewhere in the world too. It could work.

Yeah.... look like. Won't say too much in case you haven't seen the ep. But it does at least clear things up. :D
