Yep! I spoiled myself...

Let's get excited!

Spolier article here

I usually don't spoil myself but I just can't wait another 2.5 months until the show starts to not take a peek! So I'm going to read them and SQUEE! I've promised myself not to let anything get me down ('cause even though they are spoilers nothing it set in stone as we know and what they tell us and what we get can be different...). So here's my positive take on them all!

Will season 8 hinge on Sam trying to save Dean from Purgartory? "No," Singer answers. An amount of time passes before Dean finds his way back from Purgatory (not specified how long). They're planning on doing various flashbacks through the season showing what happened and what Sam did in that time while Dean was away.

No matter how many times I read that I can't really draw anything from it. This could mean ANYTHING! We have no idea in what condition Dean will return or what condition Sam will be in when he returns. There's no indication how Dean gets out. The flashbacks mean their stories will unravel over time (yay! mysteries) and the need for flashback means Dean's time away has had some sort of impact on them both. GOOD!

Why use flashbacks? Because fans usually hate it when the brothers are separated, so that's why they're being reunited quickly.

Hee! Fans are heard! (which, we know....;D) I know some fans wanted the boys to actually be apart for a few episodes and to be honest I suspect we will still get this at some stage. If they are doing flashbacks we will have episodes with them apart no doubt. The fact that we see them reunited straight away could mean we get to see a hug sooner rather than later! And if we don't get that hug (maybe they pick it up sometime after Dean has returned) it just means they are going to draw it out. In the flashback we will see the EPIC MAN HUG! (because they listen and they know we WANT HUGS!)

What about Castiel? They're still framing that out, but Cas will be back a number of times.

It will be really interesting to see what direction they take his character this season. With his garrison gone he may be more dependent on the boys. Or he may have to make new allies. Regarding a comment below he might be back to looking for Dad. ;)

Will Kevin the Prophet be back? "Kevin is an integral part of the year."

Oh wow! The thing I like about this (other than really liking Kevin) is that it means he was introduced at the end of the season FOR A REASON! It bugged me a little that he suddenly appeared at the end of the season (easy solution) but if it holds weight for this season then that holds promise.

What does Crowley want with Kevin? The King of Hell needs someone to read the word of God. "Every year we start with a theme -- this is our "Raiders of The Lost Ark" year. This season-long story will be a quest. It's about Kevin and the tablets and the Word of God."

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK!!!! \o/ QUESTS!!! (ooh...someone on my flist wanted quests! HERE THEY ARE!) YAY! Promise of adventure! *bounces* And ooohhh... Word of God sounds intriguing!! This one excites me the MOST!!

They would like guest characters like Sheriff Mills, Charlie and Garth back, but nothing is concrete yet. "And there's one new character that we're talking about. It's a monster that Dean meets in Purgatory."

YAY!!! I love ALL THESE CHARACTERS!! \o/ And Dean and a monster sounds super intriguing! An ally maybe? A nemesis?! *rubs hands gleefully*

Who will be the big bad this season? It's another angels and demons year. "It's not apocalyptic but about who can gain control and keep demons in Hell or angels in Heaven."

Ok, ok... I'm having a liiiiittle harder time being bouncy about this one but if done well it could be interesting. Maybe there's some new things to learn about the angels and demons. Crowley has grown on me. And even for those not excited about angels and demons we KNOW that not every episode will have them in it. The MoTW eps usually out number the myth arc ones. 'nuff said until I see what shape this will take. :)

Former producer Jeremy Carver, who exec produced the U.S verison of Being Human, is returning to Supernatural as your new co-showrunner. Will fans notice anything different?

"No. Jeremy gave us a couple of years on the show, so I do think this season will be a little less earnest and a little more the kind of stuff we did in Seasons 2 and 3, before the weight of all the mythology got us."

I know "a little less earnest" will upset some but if we remember S2 and S3 were pretty dramatic but had some levity as well. So this could be a great mix. Quests and adventure, less "end of the world" gravity and the bros being together!

I think there's plenty to be excited about.

BRING IT!!!\o/

In other news... I'm off to Sydney tomorrow for a week so I will be around less. I'll have the iPad so will be (hopefully) catching up on some Big Bangs.

How spoilery is your spoiler? I'm so tempted, but I really don't want to know about plot spoilers....on a scale of 0 - 10? Oh, this is so mean, to dangle this in front of me... meeh ;)
8th-Jul-2012 12:03 pm (UTC)
Hmmm... depends how spolierphobish you are... I'd say about 7!

I mean, nothing about any of the stories are given away. Just... when the boys will be together, who's going to be in it, what the major myth arc will be etc...

So yeah, pretty spoilery. It's not something I would want to know if I was going into the new season not wanting to know much....

(but I am weak! I had to know something...)

Darn! I could really do with some non-spoilery spoilers right about now. But 7 is way to high, I enjoy things so much more if I'm completely surprised. I even try to avoid looking at the intro credits to avoid spoiling myself for returning characters and such. I hope it's mostly good stuff, though, I think we're kind of on the same wave lenght in that respect.

Edit: your mood is bouncy, so I'm taking that as a good sign

Yeah...there's quite a bit of info in there.

Hee....and yep! I've decided it's much more fun to be bouncy and than pessimistic! Just the thought of seeing our boys again makes me HAPPY! \o/

Well, I get bouncy and exited by extension, then. I'll just feed off your joy!
8th-Jul-2012 11:40 am (UTC)
I'm guessing Dean's monster from Purgatory is a hot chick monster. Because even trapped in Purgatory and fighting for his life - Dean would totally hit that.
8th-Jul-2012 12:04 pm (UTC)
Hee... yeah. Dean may not be able to resist even in Purgatory....

It makes me damn curious though!!
8th-Jul-2012 12:19 pm (UTC)
I'm very interested about the 'boys back together soon' part, even if I think our darling Show puts their characters in really awesome cliffhanger places/positions and then wraps them up fairly quickly. (But you already know my opinion on arcs that could have been drawn out. *g*)

The flashbacks have a lot of potential! It seems to hint at giving much delicious backstory throughout the season while also giving what a big chunk of very vocal fans have been demanding - more bro time from the get go.

(Well that, and I want flashbacks with Dean and Cas encountering Gabriel and Balthazar in purgatory just for the awesome factor.) :P
8th-Jul-2012 12:56 pm (UTC)
I know! I actually thought they might have done something a little different with this separation, but I suppose they are sticking to form and getting them back together. I can't wait to see how they re-united them.

Oooh... I hadn't considered Dean and Cas encountering Gabriel and Balthazar. I am hoping they do explore some of the characters that could be in Purgatory....

We shall see! :)
8th-Jul-2012 12:53 pm (UTC)
I didn't read any spoilers last year but like you, I can't wait til October. I'm sure there will be plenty of fanfic from Purgatory so I guess that's ok. I just miss Bobby and hoped we'd get to see him there. I wonder how much they're going to goof with the timeline. That part of continuity is something they have trouble with sometimes and there is a lot of handwaving. Dean's lost year with Lisa was rough that way.

Are there any angels left to keep in Heaven? Demons, Crowley can always make more. That means more Crowley. Yes! Are we done with the Lucifer plotline?

As for a Raiders style quest, give me some Dean in a hat with a bullwhip. Yup. I suppose that leaves Sam as the woman in the white dress tied to a post or whatever. Something for everyone.

Have a good time in Sydney. We just got home from 2 weeks visiting family. I love them dearly but there's no place like home (a reliable web connection).

Oh hey! (I was about to PM you...)

I have to admit I do have lots of HOPES for S8, but I'm trying not to think too hard about them in case we just don't get them.

The messing with the time line is something that's always difficult. I struggled with "1 year later" in S6... not sure why would couldn't have had 4 months later or similar to when Dean was in hell. So yeah... I'm very curious about that...

And I really REALLY hope we have more Lucifer. That is the exciting thing about angels and demons... there's a chance we'll see Lucifer again! (they can't let Mark go!)

And um... :koff: Sam tied to anything would suit me just fine!!

Hee... and that's why I'm only going for a week! That's just the right about of time. I'm looking forward to seeing my new nephew. <3

Right... now the PM...;D

You too? :)

An amount of time passes before Dean finds his way back from Purgatory (not specified how long).

I've learnt not to worry too much about things this vague after I stressed myself half crazy over some of the early spoilers for season six, and then the whole thing turned out to be fine. :)

Besides, it's their family tradition. They hug, and then they cram food and beer down the recently revived one's throat. At this point I don't think they'd even know how to handle a resurrection any other way.

And Dean and a monster sounds super intriguing! An ally maybe? A nemesis?!

That is interesting, because unless there are a lot of people in Dean's position, anybody who came out of purgatory would have to be dead. That's nice and morally ambiguous, what with the probably essential possession element, even if they're an ally.

Maybe there's some new things to learn about the angels and demons.

I don't really mind demons, because we've always had those and they reinvent themselves every year. Angels I'm a bit less enthused about because, Lucifer hallucination aside, they necessarily killed off all the ones with personality by the end of season five. I can't summon a whole lot of interest in them fretting about what their god wants of them. That said, I am a bit excited about the 'keep demons in Hell or angels in Heaven' bit, because if this was about Sam and Dean finding a way to stop these divine powers messing with humanity? That would be cool.

I know "a little less earnest" will upset some but if we remember S2 and S3 were pretty dramatic but had some levity as well.

That ... just makes me laugh. Season two: 'Woe, for I might have to kill you and then I would have nothing to live for!' Season three: 'Woe, for you are going to die and then I will have nothing to live for!' That's ... a pretty solid level of earnestness, right there. :)

Hey!! <3

I stressed myself half crazy over some of the early spoilers for season six,

I usually avoid them so I DON'T stress about stuff I have no control over.... because that's exactly what I tend to do. I figure if I'm going to be spoiled I am going to take them well...;)

They hug, and then they cram food and beer down the recently revived one's throat. At this point I don't think they'd even know how to handle a resurrection any other way.

Ha! It's become a tradition (imagine saying that about a show...)

I am hoping we get to learn how Purgatory works. If Dean's there it suggests he's dead...um, maybe? Never quite understood how all that works. But I'm also happy to hand wave some of it...

I am up and down with the angels and demons stuff. Sometimes I love it (lucifer in particular and Crowley has really grown on me) but sometimes I feel like they don't really have a handle on them. So, in some ways, I'm hoping this gives them an opportunity to really give them some weight. Or something... I'm not sure....

ETA: ack... I accidentally deleted this bit...

I find it amazing that they consider S2 and S3 less earnest considering what was going on! I suppose they might mean not as dark as S4-S6. And really? I'm ok with that. :DD

hehehehe, that is SO true! Pretty solid level of earnestness, methinks :)
8th-Jul-2012 01:14 pm (UTC)
I'm excited about the Raider of the Lost Ark comment and that the brothers won't be apart too long (and solving that problem with flashbacks sounds good).
The angels and demons thing does have me groaning a bit. Although Crowley and demons might be interesting, because the dynamic in hell has obviously changed.
Not that I didn't love s4 and s5, it's just... *cough* moving on...

OMG - I'm a spoilerphobe, WHAT AM I DOING READING THIS!!?!?!!?
*snicker*

Have fun in Sydney!
9th-Jul-2012 01:30 am (UTC)
The Raiders reference has me all kinds of excited. I really hope we actually get some visual references as well ...

OMG - I'm a spoilerphobe, WHAT AM I DOING READING THIS!!?!?!!?

I KNOW!! ME TOO!! What's happening to us..../o\

Even with all this info I don't feel terrifically spoiled because we really still have no idea what's actually going to happen...*bounces*
9th-Jul-2012 01:32 am (UTC)
Word! I'm a muddle about spoilers also and for the exact reasons you mentioned.

These ones are pretty vague so I don't feel TOOOOO spoiled. I am glad to know that the boys will be back together immediately. I was all prepared for a couple of episodes of them apart so at least I am prepared (and now damn excited!) for that.

Normally I do not read spoilers but during the summer hiatus I usually lift that rule because it's so LOONNGG and I'm only human after all. :)

Love your positive outlook on this. I am also very much looking forward to S8. None of these upset me. While I want to bounce on my seat about Raiders of the Lost Arc, I admit I'm a little less bouncy given the Butch and Sundance promises of last year. But! I am still excited and cannot wait. It's way too far away.

(And even though I long ago gave up hope for the amulet to return...didn't someone once say in an interview it was gone for good? ... For some reason this "searching for the Word of God" business revives my hope a bit about that. After all Kripke once said there would not be angels on the show either. So the amulet *could* return someday. *hopes)
9th-Jul-2012 01:36 am (UTC)
Yes *nods* we are but human!

While I want to bounce on my seat about Raiders of the Lost Arc, I admit I'm a little less bouncy given the Butch and Sundance promises of last year.

Yes. That immediately sprang to mind for me too. Rather disappointing that the Butch and Sundance idea didn't really play out. I think if they are "quests" and adventure (and spiders and rolling rocks and a whip ...) then that might be all they are referring to. Raiders certainly had a supernatural element to it so for them to marry the idea isn't too out of reach I think.

I haven't heard that the amulet is gone for good (*sob*) but I agree that if "god" is back then the amulet would have a good reason to be back also. I didn't think about this before but even if Sam didn't pick up the amulet (which has been my personal fanon) Cas would be able to "trace" it maybe. So it might not be entirely lost. Hmmmmm There's hope for it yet! (yay!)
8th-Jul-2012 03:24 pm (UTC)
I think I'll go with the wait-and-see approach for this season. I'm not going to get bouncy-bouncy about things, nor am I going to gnash teeth about Castiel, semi-permanent love interests, etc. I've always been pretty open-minded about SPN. I love S4 *and* souless Sam afterall, so I say bring it on Carver!!
9th-Jul-2012 01:39 am (UTC)
Hee! Yes yes bring it! I'm also reserving my gnashing of teeth and possible disappointment about some things because we really don't know until we get it.

I have to say that there isn't a season I have loved. Even S7! So they'd have to screw things up monumentally for me to stop watching.
8th-Jul-2012 04:41 pm (UTC)
I love your intensely determined optimism! I hope it is rewarded with something worthwhile in season 8.
9th-Jul-2012 01:40 am (UTC)
Ha!! I'm a die hard!! I figure as long as I'm still enjoying it I might as well spread they joy! (and, er, yes... I hope it's rewarded also...)

This writing team loves so much to troll fandom (and I wouldn't have it any other way!), I hardly even consider interviews to be spoilers. This is how I justify reading them ALL.

I'm kind of hoping this is solid, though! I do really want to see their time apart, but flashbacks work as well for me as showing it all in sequence, and Supernatural does those particularly well, so I'd be quite happy with that. And I totally love the demons and especially the angels, and think the quest structure could set things up well to find that balance between arc/one-off episodes.

I'm really excited for MORE KEVIN too! And the other guest stars, except, I have a thing about how nothing bad can happen to Charlie ever so part of me thinks she's probably better off staying as far away from the boys as possible.
9th-Jul-2012 01:42 am (UTC)
Nothing bad better happen to Charlie!! She's untouchable (same goes for Jodie Mills as well!)

I think it all sounds pretty positive. They have done the flashback thing before and I admit to thinking that they could have changed that formula but as it's what they do it makes some sort of sense.

9th-Jul-2012 12:11 am (UTC)
I can't help loving it a little that Singer is so down with the fans wanting the boys together. LOL.

I couldn't resist reading some spoilers either, which luckily are vague enough to not really spoil anything much anyway. I could care less about angels, but demons I like - and Dean with a Raiders bullwhip makes for a lovely image, gotta say :) All in all, I'm optimistic. But then again, that's me...

Have a good trip!
9th-Jul-2012 01:57 am (UTC)
I'm really glad Singer mentioned us wanting to see the boys together. Hopefully that's a really good indication that he knows that's what we love best and want to see lots of bro stuff!

Yeah - they are pretty vague so I don't really feel like I know a heap. :)

And thanks! I'm looking forward to it.
