Oh yeah

LJ Is Alive!
A Multifandom LiveJournal Friending Meme
Tumblr is great, but my fandom heart is in LJ.

I'm pimping this not because I'm taking part but because I WANT LJ TO LIVE!

I wrote an essay about fan sites and how fans take what they're given and make them work. I haven't posted it because it's a jumbled of thoughts and it's lacking research, but I'm intrigued by the way a platform like Tumblr has been - um- bent to accommodate the way fans want to post. And how Live Journal seems to be trying to accommodate the ways (some) fans like to post with their recent updates. Particularly things like allowing sticky posts to comms and incorporating features that seem popular on other social media sites.

I think I might be one of the rare few who actually like the LJ updates. I haven't used their new friends page (I like viewing it in my own format) but I do like the profile and posting page.

I also pondered if a fan specific platform may ever be created. A place that featured everything we need so we could all hang out in one place. A place that's easy to post (like Tumblr) but allows connectivity (like LJ). Ridiculous thinking really because not only do we all want something different but it wouldn't be cost effective for the developers I imagine.

Aaannnway. The only way LJ will stay alive and kicking is if we keep using it! It's heartening to see over 3000 comments to the above meme. :))

I actually find LJ pretty easy to use, for an internet platform. And I can't figure out what the perceived differences between LJ and DW are, other than DW being much smaller and therefor not (yet) the victim of DoS attacks. At least tumblr is offering something rather different, so - while it's not for me - I can see why it might be a attractive alternative to some people.

Yes. I find LJ really easy to use. Now. It took quite a while to figure it out and when I first arrived I had no idea what was going on.

DW I see as similar to LJ - I see people going there mostly to get away from LJ - either because they are pissed of with it or maybe want to start from fresh.

Tumblr looks like fun and I love the stuff coming out of there. I keep telling myself I will learn to make gifs and gif sets because I see them as a great way to make a statement or observation about the show.

I like LJ - it is highly unlikely that I would post elsewhere now. Certainly not to Tumblr or any of the others.

Oh hey! YOU'RE alive...;D I wondered if you were still checking the place out.

I like LJ too. Great way to connect and see heaps of great stuff. :)

I like your idea of a utopian fannish platform. Tho that's pretty much what I thought I'd found when I discovered LJ back in the day, come to think of it :)

For me LJ is the perfect platform. But I can see why it doesn't suit many - it takes a little bit of getting used to. The same with Tumblr though - I still can't get used to it.
