This was deliberate yes? An in joke? That's how I read it. I kinda laughed out loud when Tuesday was mentioned. (As in Mystery Spot Tuesday). Surely they couldn't have that big of a mistake... It's just far to damn obvious. I took Crowley's "Tuesdays, what could go wrong" as a bit of a wink. And Jensen's "nope". Also Jared's emphasis on "ever". Maybe I'm making the wrong assumption?

ROFL I guess it says a lot about my opinion of the creative team that my first thought was: You idiots! Does nobody remember Mystery Spot?!?!

I like your reaction much better! ;)
19th-Sep-2013 01:32 pm (UTC)
I sincerely hope they meant it. Carver wrote Mystery Spot and I am sure he would have had the final say on this promo (wouldn't he?). Also...I think they like to stir us up a bit.... If it is an oversight I will be very disappointed...:(

Yeah, I'm pretty darn certain too...;)
19th-Sep-2013 01:43 pm (UTC)
It was a joke, had to be. HAD to be.
19th-Sep-2013 04:01 pm (UTC)
Hee love your very appropriate icon!

The eye roll is what makes me think it's all part of the joke...his "thinks deliberately" eye roll...

(they both look A-MAZING in this promo also...)
19th-Sep-2013 02:13 pm (UTC)
my first thought was: wtf, the promo team screwed up!
maybe the person who came up with the script to this clip really had no idea about Mystery Spot - but it's wonderful what the actors made of it.
20th-Sep-2013 01:00 am (UTC)
I think many have thought the promo team screwed up. But I reckon the Js would be like...er...but what about Mystery Spot Tuesday (I figure they'd remember at least). Hmmm...maybe that's why they played it the way they did. Though - I'm going to go with deliberately written that way because of the connection the show has with Tuesdays...:)
19th-Sep-2013 02:15 pm (UTC)
What the heck? In the heat of the moment it must have just slipped their minds. Now they need to go back in time to fix it.

If I only trusted the writers more, ya know? I don't know how much the writers and the promo people talk either. I'm going to go with a nudge nudge wink wink thing. I can't believe they'd be that off about this. I'm just waiting for someone to jump out from behind the curtain and yell, "Trolled, Ha Ha." For people who are more casual viewers, it isn't going to mean anything other than what they actually said.

This looks like it was shot at the same time as the promo pictures. They need to let Sam go without layers more often.
19th-Sep-2013 03:55 pm (UTC)
*politely butts in*

In the heat of the moment it must have just slipped their minds. Now they need to go back in time to fix it.

This is genius. I love your brain! :)
19th-Sep-2013 02:22 pm (UTC)
Wasn't season three on Thursdays?
19th-Sep-2013 02:23 pm (UTC)
at first i was pissed, like what? tuesday? how could they forget? then i thought maybe they meant jared and jensen on tuesday, no, that doesn't make sense. then i thought, they have to be fucking with us.

but the Dallas con is this weekend!!! someone can ask!!!

i think they all knew and are pulling our leg.
20th-Sep-2013 12:35 pm (UTC)
Definitely a joke and pulling our leg. Check out the comments below for clarification that they knew exactly what they were doing...:))

19th-Sep-2013 02:23 pm (UTC)
Actually, wasn't only season 1 on Tuesdays?
19th-Sep-2013 02:24 pm (UTC)
If you'd asked me anytime up until the end of season 7 I'd have said OF COURSE it's a joke! Having seen the sheer mind-numbing number of balls-ups on season 8 though...? Yeah, now I'm not so sure. :P
20th-Sep-2013 12:37 pm (UTC)
Having read the comments below it seems clear that they knew exactly what they were doing and it IS all in reference to Mystery Spot's Tuesday.

Though I hear you. They messed up (and re-imagined) some canon last season so it does open up that doubt.
19th-Sep-2013 02:24 pm (UTC)
At first my initial response was 'WTF', but then I thought to myself "Oh maybe they're referring to the actual day the show airs rather than the inverse day. Did the show air on a Tuesday during season 3?". So I looked it up and turns out season 3 aired on a Wednesday, so I figured "Ah that explains it". But then I did more digging and turns out season two aired on a Tuesday which means Sam died on a Tuesday (All Hell Breaks Loose Part I) so whatever way you look at it the promo team made a mistake.

I am going to be generous though and give them the benefit of the doubt :)
19th-Sep-2013 03:01 pm (UTC)
Mystery Spot Tuesday is the Tuesday I am sure they are referring to. One of them died A LOT on a Tuesday. (and hence Jensen's "thinky" face when Jared mentions it....) and Mark's "what could go wrong" comment...

Either really clever writing or really really lame... ( I desperately want it to be clever).
19th-Sep-2013 02:24 pm (UTC)
Ooh, I get it. lol TUESDAY--as in Mystery Spot TUESDAY. Not day of the week the show aired. ;) Got it. lol
19th-Sep-2013 02:55 pm (UTC)
Yes yes yes! Mystery Spot Tuesday, The one where Dean died ..what? A hundred times?! It's gotta be why they made that joke. just look at the way Jensen has to "think" about it in the first gif. Either that or they have really screwed up....
19th-Sep-2013 03:25 pm (UTC)
I think it's a joke. It sounds like a joke. Besides, given all the different days the show has aired I think it's the only way it makes sense. How many people are going to remember what day an episode played six or seven years ago, in order to tell whether they're being ironic? But people who've watched the show will probably remember Tuesday if they remember any day at all.

Also why the actors rather than the characters (aside from Crowley) need to be doing the lines – to keep the tone light. Mystery Spot jokes are really not funny if you're Sam, but are funny if you're just about anyone else. :)
20th-Sep-2013 01:08 am (UTC)
It does sound like a joke. And the format is curious - having Jared and Jensen talk about Sam and Dean and then Crowley appearing and then...it seems like the Js become Sam and Dean. I think it's all very tongue in cheek and fun. They know that WE know the significance of Tuesdays...:)

And hey you! Ready for a new season?! <3
19th-Sep-2013 04:01 pm (UTC)
Hee! I noticed that too and I definitely think it was a little in-joke to Mystery Spot. If they didn't mean it to be that way, then it was a really, REALLY happy accident. But I took it to be a nod to Dean's deaths in Mystery Spot.
20th-Sep-2013 01:11 am (UTC)
Yep yep..nod to Mystery Spot...:)
19th-Sep-2013 04:16 pm (UTC)
Oh my god.
20th-Sep-2013 01:13 am (UTC)
Ha..Oh my God what? OMG I can't believe they screwed up or OMG I can't believe you're having a discussion about something that is clearly a joke..? Or...OMG I can't believe how friggin HOT those two men are!

19th-Sep-2013 04:28 pm (UTC)
It's totally a joke. Especially since Jeremy Carver wrote Mystery Spot, there's no way that they've forgotten about it. It's tied in with their move to Tuesdays, it's like they're saying hey, nothing can go wrong on that day, right? Because of course it can, lol.
20th-Sep-2013 01:14 am (UTC)
Yes yes yes yes...my reading exactly...nothing can go wrong on a Tuesday! IT NEVER HAS BEFORE!! hahahaha....
19th-Sep-2013 05:56 pm (UTC)
How can it not be deliberate?! :D This is so hilarious! Way too funny to waste time with doubts, don't you think? ;)
20th-Sep-2013 02:29 am (UTC)
Waste time? Me? When have I ever??....LOL!

And how can it not indeed...(but I have to say I was surprised how much backlash there's been to it over on tumblr (or maybe that isn't surprising).
19th-Sep-2013 05:59 pm (UTC)
First thing I said when I seen I was "Hello! Mystery Spot!!"

But thinking about it afterwards I was thinking maybe they meant that they have never died on an episode that aired on Tuesdays?

I hope someone asks at Dallas Con.
20th-Sep-2013 12:39 pm (UTC)
It looks like it's definitely a nod to Mystery Spot. The original hashtag post was #piginapoke - so yeah. They knew! Which makes me mighty happy!
19th-Sep-2013 06:15 pm (UTC)
I never saw a problem with this until I came on LJ because I was assuming a 'real world' Tuesday, which would only apply to season 1 - and if it isn't then, yes, in-joke. Possibly supposed to be ambiguous for the sake of the general viewer vs fanatic?
Whatever...just look at these guys...mmm...what did they even say?
20th-Sep-2013 12:41 pm (UTC)
It looks like it's definitely a nod to Mystery Spot's Tuesday. Lots of deaths!! Which makes it all very cool!

And just look at those to drop dead gorgeous men!! I had to watch it twice to hear them also...;)
19th-Sep-2013 07:34 pm (UTC)
Oh yeah, it was deliberate :) Carver wrote Mystery Spot, he knows!

Besides, technically none of those deaths actually happened! That whole timeline was erased.
20th-Sep-2013 12:34 pm (UTC)
Yes yes - totally deliberate. *nods*

And erasing that timeline as always been intriguing to me. Sam lived through all that, but only as a kind of dream. Luckily Dean doesn't remember all his deaths...
19th-Sep-2013 10:10 pm (UTC)
i cant believe how low people's comedy literacy is! They couldn't have signposted the joke more if it had a neon flashing sign!!!!
20th-Sep-2013 12:16 am (UTC)
And given the way Supernatural uses comedy (hello The French Mistake) you'd think people would at least give it the benefit of the doubt. I thought it was hilarious when I first saw it - Show knows us so well! - and then saw the uproar on tumblr about the "mistake" and got confuzzled....(and yes yes, I know...shouldn't take notice of tumblr.../o\)
20th-Sep-2013 01:17 am (UTC)
This was originally posted on their Facebook site with the hash tag #PigInAPoke, so I think they knew all along exactly what they were "poking" fun at!
20th-Sep-2013 02:32 am (UTC)
OMG!~ This totally clears up the matter! So the producers used that hash tag? Not a fan? That's great to hear. Thanks so much for sharing.
20th-Sep-2013 09:22 am (UTC)
I assumed it was a Mystery Spot reference (until the internets made me doubt myself). I like the gifs.

PS. Which episode is your Sam wearing glasses icon from, was it the bodyswap one?

Edited at 2013-09-20 09:24 am (UTC)
20th-Sep-2013 12:43 pm (UTC)
Yep - definitely a reference to Mystery Spot (I've had it confirmed in this thread!).

I believe the glasses are manipped. I thought they were real until someone mentioned to me that they had been manipped on. So - not from any ep or RL photo.
20th-Sep-2013 10:19 am (UTC)
Saw this and... couldn't... quite... decide...

Several re-watches later and I'm still torn. My initial reaction was that they'd screwed up somewhere, but the fact that it's so tongue in cheek might have shoved it safely into the ambiguous-enough territory of 'we're poking fun at it'.

Still not sure. And it bugs me. :P
20th-Sep-2013 12:46 pm (UTC)
I think it has potential to be either really obvious or somewhat ambiguous. I think it's because of the way it's filmed. I have since been told that the original hash tag for the facebook post was #piginapoke and "Tuesday just got better" - so they are definitely referencing Mystery Spot. Which makes me want to hug them even more!

So yeah - a nod to fans for knowing the show and a call back to a really well known episode (maybe Carver referencing his own episode also...)
20th-Sep-2013 12:13 pm (UTC)
I honestly don't know how anyone could think this was anything but humour!! I have heard that fandom was showing it's dumb with some of the "Duhhh have they forgotten about Mystery Spot??" type reactions and I kinda feel sorry for those who would think the show makers were that thick. It's a clever show most of the time, with clever writers - there is no way this wasn't use a humour.
20th-Sep-2013 12:17 pm (UTC)
Oh and that first gif?? Soooooooooo distracted by Jared's face and arms. I mean really. Kudos to the promo makers for showing us all the pretty here. ALL THE PRETTY.
