To spoil or not to spoil...
20th-Jul-2012 08:57 pm
I think it's handy knowing the spoiler tolerance level of my darling flist. Some of you I know... but some of my new friends *waves* I'm not sure about. So....a simple poll.

Poll #1854986 Spoilers and me

How much of a spoilerphobe are you?

I am a spoilerphobe of the highest order! I HATE BEING SPOILED! Grrrr
I try to be a spoilerphobe but sometimes I have no will power and peek a teeeeeny bit.
I mostly avoid spoilers except during hiatus. I'm human after all!
I like to remain spoiler free but I don't really mind if I come across a spoiler by accident.
*meh* I don't go looking for them. If I'm spoiled I don't really care.
I LOVE spoilers! GIMME!!
I have no idea what the fuss is all about.
Something else I'll mention in the comments.

I mostly hate being spoiled because it usually makes me miserable, but on the other hand I am a complete, helpless, masochistic spoiler addict and I read every spoiler out there.
20th-Jul-2012 02:15 pm (UTC)
Yes, this!
20th-Jul-2012 01:18 pm (UTC)
If I could I would choose to see some spoilers - the ones that tantalize - although not big plot spoilers. I love speculating about the range of possibilities something might lead to... and it cranks up my excitement/anticipation level.

Ironically keeping the Wiki spoiler free exposes me to all the spoilers! But honestly i don't know how people exist on the internet - esp twitter and tumblr - these days and avoid them for a show they are closely involved with.

I think that's why I've let my guard down a little. I am bound to be spoiled at some point.

I've rather enjoyed the spoilers this time - even though I fluctuate between WANT and DO NOT WANT - I rather like that they could mean anything and it's fun to speculate.

I think though I'll go back to no seeking spoilers. I love being surprised...
20th-Jul-2012 01:19 pm (UTC)
I dare you to guess:P
20th-Jul-2012 04:44 pm (UTC)
err, give me 'Who is a die hard spoilerphobe?' for $500 Alex! ;P
20th-Jul-2012 01:29 pm (UTC)
It's so HARD to stay spoiler free, but I really like being surprised when I watch an episode. I don't even like watching trailers for "next week on Supernatural"
20th-Jul-2012 04:48 pm (UTC)
YES! This is my response, already typed up so pretty too!!
20th-Jul-2012 01:48 pm (UTC)
To me, staying spoiler-free is like dieting. I'm all, "I'm not going to read any more spoilers- I am going to remain pure and unspoiled!"

And then I see a spoiler coming my way and I'm like, "GIMME THAT SPOILER!!!!"
21st-Jul-2012 04:43 am (UTC)
HA!! I love it... that's exactly how it is! Oooh... you mean there's chocolate on this one? I'll just have a nibble then....
21st-Jul-2012 04:45 am (UTC)
Yeah... there are somethings I like to know about before hand (um.. like if Cas will be making an appearance. For some reason knowing beforehand helps me be cool with it.. *g*)

But mostly I like not knowing. I just need a little more will power...
20th-Jul-2012 02:19 pm (UTC)
I'm not massively fussed about it, although prefer eps to be a 'surprise' in general.

One thing I do HATE though is being accidentally spoiled because someone on my flist doesn't put spoilers under a cut. I think it's always safer to cut them!
21st-Jul-2012 04:47 am (UTC)
Yeah. I hate having gone to the effort of avoiding a spolier and then see it mentioned uncut. I see this less and less these days I have to say, but a few years ago that was a real problem.
20th-Jul-2012 02:31 pm (UTC)
Hah! Well you would have guessed right with me, but I caved - *sobs* - I just HAD to peek at some of the CC interviews and I'm sure you know why.

I wish I hadn't though, I really, really wish I hadn't, my imagination is not a pretty place at all.

I thought about tuning off the internet until October, but that wasn't very feasible, but I am going back to my "DON'T LOOK AT SPOILERS YOU BLOODY IDIOT" mode right now.
21st-Jul-2012 04:50 am (UTC)
OH YOU DID?!?!? Oh wow... because I know how much you hate being spoiled.

And I hear ya. I've been wanting to discuss the spoilers because I think sometimes hashing it all out helps (especially if you are feeling worried about some aspect ::koff:: like I am...), but I'm waiting until I post some meta so I don't get swayed by others' thoughts. After that... I wanna get some things off my chest...;DD
20th-Jul-2012 02:41 pm (UTC)
I don't usually care about spoilers for shows, but when it comes to SPN I've found that actively avoiding spoilers makes me enjoy the show more. In fact, getting spoiled significantly decreases my enjoyment of an episode. I like being surprised every week.

I also find that, in spoiler discussions, fans inevitably see the worst in what is, at best, incomplete information. They leap to conclusion and wail and gnash their teeth and rend their garments, and it's usually for naught. This plays a HUGE role in lessening my enjoyment of the episode, having to deal with a week or more's worth of "Oh GOD they are RUINING the show FOREVER!!11!1!!" from fellow fans.

So I steer clear of spoilers and anyone who is discussing them, because it invariably harshes my squee.

Make sense?
21st-Jul-2012 04:53 am (UTC)

This is me! I LOVE being surprised and I HATE all the gnashing of teeth over spoilers. I'm even feeling guilty of doing some gnashing myself but I've turned it all around and just gone... SQUEEEE! I can't wait...

And then I'm back to completely avoiding spoilers. Show IS more enjoyable that way...<3
20th-Jul-2012 02:55 pm (UTC)
I go about 99% spoiler free EXCEPT during hiatus where I completely lift that rule and morph into a 100% spoiler fiend/junky. Gimme, gimme. It's like temporarily lifting a diet restriction because you are pregnant or because you are going on this fantastic vacation. So much fun.

21st-Jul-2012 11:37 am (UTC)
Ha! Yes... lifting the diet restriction - I seem to be the same at the moment. :) I've read more this time than I have ever done in the past. I'm looking forward to stopping now though. I think I've spoiled myself enough. Well, until I'm tempted by the next one....
20th-Jul-2012 03:02 pm (UTC)
I went with meh!
I don't hunt them down and i if i see one it doesn't really bother me. So yeah, meh about sums it up!
21st-Jul-2012 12:36 pm (UTC)
I'm glad that option came in handy. I figured there would be some who might not have worried either way. Hmmm... I wish I was like that...;)

20th-Jul-2012 03:53 pm (UTC)
I need spoilers! I'll go looking for spoilers like Pooh Bear goes looking for honey!
21st-Jul-2012 12:38 pm (UTC)
Hee! You must have been in honey heaven after Comic Com. :D

20th-Jul-2012 05:30 pm (UTC)
I'm a spoiler whore. I'll take anything I can get!
lol ;P
21st-Jul-2012 12:40 pm (UTC)
Oh hey you!!

Hee... I figure the spoiler whores would have loved Comic Con! :))

21st-Jul-2012 01:37 pm (UTC)
Hee... no.

I need to reclaim my spoilerphobe status me thinks...;)
20th-Jul-2012 07:45 pm (UTC)
Ha! None of those options fit me! I read spoilers, but usually hate them. =P
21st-Jul-2012 01:43 pm (UTC)

I think that's why I like to (usually!) stay away. I've been having to work had to stay positive recently..;)
