Day 20: Favourite crying/sad scene

This question seems a little like the one about the episode that makes you cry. This time I'm picking scenes that were particularly sad for the characters.

I giffed two scenes because these are on the top of my list:

John's death has to be one of the saddest moments for the boys (aside from any time one of them dies). I love this moment in the hospital just after John dies. Their reactions are very different - they say a lot about their characters. Dean is confused and shocked, Sam seems to accepts what is happening and starts to grieve immediately. This mirrors the scene by John's grave. Dean is stoic and holding in his emotions while Sam freely cries.

Cry-Dean-over-John

I have mixed feeling about the final scene in Heart. I absolutely loved Dean's reaction - the tear and the flinch when the gun goes off. I wasn't too keen on the way they filmed Jared (looked like a wide lens or something. I figure it was used to heighten the drama - which probably wasn't necessary. The song and their performances were enough). Anyway - loved that the camera stayed on Dean when Sam went in to do the deed - very powerful. I also love that Dean feels this way because of what his little brother is having to do. Whaaaaaaa :((

Cry---dean-flinches

Other fav sad scenes - Sam and Dean watching John's body burn, Dean crying over John's grave in What is..., Jo and Ellen's death, Dean's breakdown at the end of Heaven and Hell, Dean's phone call in Home (I remember that scene blowing me away at the time!), Dean at the end of On the Head of a Pin, each time one of the boys die, Bobby's death, Bobby saying goodbye to his (zombie) wife, Nick (Lucifer's vessel) crying over his dead baby's cot,....Damn it! Too many sad scenes.

Least favourite sad scene: Dean throwing away the amulet. NUFF SAID!

This show is one looooooong sad scene, interspersed with moments of light-heartedness. ;) I think my favourite sad moment of the show will forever be Dean's monologue at Sam's death bed in All Hell Breaks Loose II. I still think it's Jensen's finest moment on the show. ♥

Seconded. Seriously that scene always leaves me with tears in my eyes, if not outright crying. That and Ellen and Jo's last scene in Abandon All Hope.

Nick (Lucifer's vessel) crying over his dead baby's cot

Wow, I'd totally missed this one, but you're spot-on about the power of the scene. We learned so much about Nick from just those few moments -- kudos to Pellegrino for pulling that off.

It was a wonderful performance and I think a fabulous set up for seeing why he'd say yes to Lucifer.

Hmm for me my absolute crying/sad scene would probably be Sam's death at the end of All Hell Breaks Loose Part I I can never rewatch that scene without something in my eye!

Other mentions would be Dean's utter despair at the end of My Bloody Valentine, the boys reaction to Bobby's death and Castiel's admission that he is feeling suicidal in Hunteri Heroici kills me.

Sam's death - and Jensen's performance in those scene - were fantastic. My heart aches every time I watch it...:(((

Whereas Castiel's admission to feeling suicidal didn't draw a tear from me, I felt it was a really important moment and one that, actually, I'd like for them to have explored some more. I think he (a bit like Sam at times) doesn't get much opportunity to say how he feels about everything he's done. I remember being moved by that scene and then (if I recall correctly), baffled because that was the last we heard of Cas feeling suicidal.

I had forgotten the phone call in Home. So much crying…. The flinch at the gunshot in Heart. That was awesome to show it through Dean's reaction. Ditto on least favorite sad scene.

I think it was that phone call in Home that the producers saw what Jensen could do with tears and thought...let's do more of that! And they did...
