I really did love The End (5.04) and Croatoan (2.09). I remember after Croatoan aired fandom complained (quite a bit!) about it not making sense. That this virus was introduced without any follow up (what did it mean that sam was immune? etc). And there it was, 3 seasons later with a full explanation. Looking back, it's great to see how many of the episodes tied into the 5 year story arc. It also remains my favourite Jensen episode of all time. His acting was top shelf. And even though Sam didn't appear much, he had a huge impact when he did.
I made this vid. I remember wanting to look at the reasons why Sam ended up becoming Lucifer's vessel (also, The Doors' "This is the End" song wouldn't leave me alone!). I also wanted to twist it a little by suggesting that actually this is how it ended. :(
I think this episode serves as a reminder of what happens if they they fail to "keep each other human". It's still a very strong theme, even now. In fact, I'd say more now than ever.
It's been lovely to see all the Croatoan celebration posts around. Fandom can be pretty damn positive when it wants to be. :)
I'm gonna be SUPER sad if demon!Dean doesn't get any good dialogue this season, it's the insightful, clever speeches that really made all the past demon nemeses great.
My favorite black-eyed Dean in the show is the hallucinated one in Dream a Little Dream of Me. If S10 Dean is close to that I'll be creeped out, happily.
I really hope for that also. Dean would be awesome with some great, cutting dialogue. He'll say stuff that he might have been holding back on also...It could get pretty nasty (and insightful).
Yes yes perfect song is perfect! And I was amazed at the enthusiasm in Fandom today - I went on tumblr to try and find the source of the Croatoan gif that went round with the virus, but after paging down for a full 30 minutes through Croatoan posts, I gave up!
I haven't been on tumblr much today - but I did see quite a few Croatoan related posts in the short time I was there. Hmmm - there must be some source somewhere for that gif - I've seen it around quite a bit.
Ah, thank you for the trip back down memory lane, o dear Mme Vidding Queen, just one look at Samnifer and I already can feel a fresh load of goose pimples ante portas. *shivers*
And who am I, not seconding you to your, "It also remains my favourite Jensen episode of all time. His acting was top shelf." sentences?? *fangurlsqueeee*
Yes, those were the days, when we could nod at each other with a knowingly grin and doing the chorus, "in Kripke we trust." *retro sigh*
Awesome vid, my friend. Truly one of the great elements of the famous (and seemingly defunct) five year myth arc. That and the amulet - worn since the pilot, explained in season 3 - made me love the show so damn fiercely at the time. It was fabulous seeing all the Croatoan posts on Tumblr and LJ yesterday.
more wonderful trips down memory lane <3. i did watch The End on that friday. its eerie that that future episode is where spn is in the present or will be soon .....
And thanks! I have SO much admiration for writers and artists. <33

What I love most about fandom is the fact that small, large, silly or deep, we put our mind to it and it gets done :D
Great post hun :)
Thanks

Have a good weekend, hun. ;)

It's great to be reminded how awesome and unique our fandom is. I'm a little late but happy Croatoan day!
