Lucifer sad face
Hey. Sorry for lack of review for 13.06 (and now for 13.07). In all honesty, I don't have a lot positive to say so I figure it's not great to write stuff (though, of course, I can't help myself so here's a little bit of stuff).

Last week's ep kinda just bored me and this week's ep was a dog's breakfast. That said, the directing was sharp (thankfully with so much going on), but as I don't really care a jot about any of those characters I found it hard to stay interested.

I pretty much figure they just want to return everyone so they can make it more of an ensemble show - which is great for all those actors but Sam and Dean are pretty much the only reason I stay tuned so, yeah. I figure this is just the way it will be now - fewer eps with just Sam and Dean. :(

And making Sam continually wrong when he tries to be compassionate? I'm done with that. Sidekick!Sam doesn't interest me either. Sam being gullible isn't a good look for him. And demons and fist fighting is just plain pissing me off. What happened to throwing them against a wall and sticking them there? Annyyyway.... I KNOW the next episode will be different (different writers etc), so I'll just hang in there for the odd episode that I enjoy.

In the meantime, due to rehearsals I won't have chance to write reviews any more (and I think I'm just losing interest to be honest). I will swing by and comment on stuff if it's not negative (and I feel like I have something to say! :D)

*hugs* to you all. Hope you enjoyed it more than me! xx

I saw all the characters that were in it as well as who wrote it - not going to touch that with a barge pole, I am so done with angels and bmol to be honest. Like you I tune in for Sam and Dean and their CLEVER heroic deeds. The current obsession with bringing back old characters for redemption arcs is ridiculous and boring and demeaning to the Sam and Dean I know and love.

I don't think you'll miss much by skipping this one. It'll be easy enough to pick up the storyline later, I'm sure.

I wasn't spoilt for this ep (other than seeing some positive tweets which had me excited), so I had no idea what I was in for. I kinda wish I had been prepared as I might have enjoyed it more.

To fill you in...(if you're skipping this one)...spoilers of course...

The stuff you might (or might not) want to know:

Lucifer escaped from the upside-down, I mean the alt!verse, because alt!Kevin (who magically appeared) did some sort of spell for Michael that Lucifer took advantage of and slipped through the rip he created (no idea why alt!kevin hasn't been able to do this years and years earlier, but there ya go).

Meanwhile Cas decides to go and look for Jack via his angel pals all by himself (because that always goes well) and it went, well, not well. He got captured by the new Crowley (along with the powerless Lucifer (except for making his eyes glow red) and that's how the episode ended.

Meanwhile Sam and Dean (yep, they appeared for about a third of the ep) were looking into witch murders and spotted a Ketch look alike on some camera footage (as you do). Dean was sure, Sam wasn't and they were at odds about that for the rest of the episode.

Meanwhile, they used a kind witch (who came forward to them for help) as bait and lured the Ketch look alike. It worked and they caught "Ketch".

Then there were scenes with Ketch telling them he isn't Ketch He was, instead, the brother to Ketch. Sam believed him (sort of) and Dean didn't (most definitely). Dean beat him up and didn't feed him. Sam gave let him have a sandwich. Dean was rather pissed about that.

Lucifer and Cas talk. A lot. Cas is mad. Lucifer is desperate. Cas calls Dean. Dean and and Sam come running. They get beaten up by demons (or maybe angels, I've lost track) but are SAVED by the maybe is/maybe isn't Ketch. Dean's "gut" confirms it's Ketch (Sam is wrong because he just doesn't have that gut instinct that Dean does apparently) and Ketch explains he survived because of some magic by Rowena (kill me now!!).

So. Lucifer is back. Alt!kevin is a thing. Ketch is back. Cas and Lucifer are imprisoned by the new Crowley (damn, can't think of his name) and Sam and Dean are bloody good at fighting beings from another world (but Sam is bad at reading people).

Now you're up to date. :)) And if you thought my explanation was confusing then I succeeded! :)

Oh god. Dog's breakfast is right!

I watched last week's, the first one I've watched all the way through this season. It was a big yawn.
26th-Nov-2017 12:23 pm (UTC)
I was surprised how yawn worthy it was considering it was Castiel's return (but maybe that was why it was kinda boring? I dunno...)

I for one will miss your reviews -- pretty sure
I'm not alone!

Yes, this episode was pretty lame, but wasn't Sam beautiful? I don't know what it was (camera angles, lighting, maybe the way they did his hair?) but I'm really looking forward to screencaps of his scenes from this episode. Just exquisite!

There, I found something positive to say! ;)
25th-Nov-2017 01:27 pm (UTC)
Yes! Sam is beautiful this season, and definitely in this episode. I can't deny!

Your icon! LOL!

I know I watched SPN last week, but I don't even remember what it was about. (And I don't save the eps to re-watch on my DVR any more either.) But I know it wasn't as bad as this week's. I am so DONE WITH torture. Also, villains standing around in suits (with silent cohorts behind them) trying to look menacing. Stop it!

I was mildly entertained by Kevin's return, though. Because Alt!Kevin was a somewhat different character than regular!Kevin, and the idea that people would have evolved different personalities in the AU intrigued me a bit. And his character actually served a purpose; it wasn't random. I didn't mind that they found a way to bring Ketch back, or that Lucifer escaped the AU either. I *did* feel that cramming that all in one ep was a bit much... and I'm not optimistic that I'll like where they take those opportunities.

Mainly though, there wasn't enough good Sam and Dean stuff, and I hated the torture. Those were my biggest takeaways.

I liked Alt!Kevin too, I'm hoping we'll get a bit more of him. I was surprised they brought Lucifer back across so early in the season - not sure how I feel about that, though it was a vaguely interesting spin to have his power downgraded in doing so. I thought Cas was supposed to be supercharged since he was powered up by Jack before he died, but that seems to have been forgotten.

Ketch as the duplicitous villain might be good since David HJ is pretty good at being smooth and dangerous, and his presence could be interesting when and if Mary returns.

I know I watched SPN last week, but I don't even remember what it was about.

Cas returned in the least specular, and ridiculously smooth way possible. "oh hey, you're back! It must be you because you look like you. Let's go and hunt something".

Because Alt!Kevin was a somewhat different character than regular!Kevin,

Agreed! I did enjoy alt!Kevin (I really like Osric's performances) but I was really frustrated by the way he miraculously found a way to create a rip in the time/space fabric (when only Jack could do that earlier). I do rather love the idea of visiting past characters through this alt!universe - I just hope they are token (but I'm totally prepared for that I have to say).

Torture is always hard and bucklemming seem to like writing that stuff. :(

I wasn't too happy about last week's episode but today was just "urgh".
Meanwhile:

Speaking sidekick or quiet lampshade
Sammy did fade
Into the background once again
Shining as prop now.. oh, my poor Sam

(I admit, I did have fun putting this "artwork" together. lol)

Bwhahahah! I shouldn't laugh because I ain't happy with what they are doing but HEE!
25th-Nov-2017 01:37 pm (UTC)
haha! Love it. Oh poor Sam! though he is definitely tall enough to be a good lamp shade. :)

Lol, this made me smile!!!

Everything you say has merit.

I totally understand the desire to turn this into an ensemble cast, for variety, for fresh blood, for time off for the stars, I GET IT. But like you, I watch for two reasons these days: Sam and Dean. (I remember a time when I also watched for Bobby, for Jo and Ellen, for Crowley, for the angels on occasion. These are not those times anymore, and I think it's because we're not getting quality Sam and Dean. They're still in every episode; they're still the leads of the goddamned show. If your tentpoles are weak, the tent collapses. No matter how "pretty" the canvas is, it can't stand on its own.)

And unsurprisingly, I too am QUITE through with Sam's tendency towards compassion constantly being the wrong decision. I get that the show has to have its drama, but is this the message we want to put out into the world? That giving people a second chance ALWAYS bites you on the ass? Just fecking ONCE I'd like to see Sam's faith in someone rewarded. (Dean is the ONLY character for whom this seems to hold true. And maybe Cas, even though Cas has seriously screwed Sam over before.) Personally, I don't see how Sam manages to keep that faith. It's beyond me.

Upon second watch, I did think the direction was solid, and so were the performances (except for the eye-rolly faux-Southern accent of Colonel Asmodeus Sanders), so there's that. The scar make-up was kinda awful, though. I dunno if they got a new make-up crew, but my high-def TV did the wound effects no favors. Almost hate to admit it, but Misha and Mark Pellegrino had good chemistry together. If I HAVE to watch those two, at least it's entertaining.

Please do stop by! We'll miss your reviews, but maybe I'll try to pick up your Sam-lovin' mantle and run with it. We shall see.

All my love, lady! *smooooch!* Good luck with the rehearsals!

24th-Nov-2017 09:37 pm (UTC)
Pick up the mantle! I need the Sammy insights from my Sam!Girls!
25th-Nov-2017 12:06 am (UTC)
I may just! From a Sam!girl spin. But I'm not always in-line with ALL Sam!girls, heh. I certainly will try to be fair to all our favorite critters. :D

I think it's because we're not getting quality Sam and Dean.

This. We used to get these lovely other characters (and still do) but unless Sam and Dean are either front and centre or important to the storyline, I'm just not that interested. More and more that secondary characters carry the storyline And I get it too - but it just means I'm not as invested. :/

Personally, I don't see how Sam manages to keep that faith. It's beyond me.

Totally amazes me. Especially when he doesn't even have Dean to fall back on. :(

I did think the direction was solid,

I think the direction saved much of this episode. Even though I criticised the fight with he demons (angels?) I thought the direction was excellent. It was a great fight scene. And I agree Misha and Mark has chemistry - as did Dean and with Ketch, I thought. I mean, there were some strengths in the episode for sure. It was the plot holes and lack of Sam and Dean (and Sam being "weak") that annoyed the hell outta me.

but maybe I'll try to pick up your Sam-lovin' mantle and run with it. We shall see.

Doooo eeettt! :)

*smooches* back. Thanks for dropping by! <3

I thought this one was ok, I did actually chuckle at a couple of points, though probably for the wrong reasons. The fighting thing is bugging me too but I'm telling myself this is because these demons are just the dregs of hell and not very powerful (though it doesn't really explain why the angels are equally underpowered). I share your disinterest in the Castiel Lucifer show, and your fear that the trend is to give us less and less quality time with our Winchesters, but there have been some good episodes this season so far, so as usual, I'll ride out the naff ones.

Yeah. Riding out the naff ones. :) I promised myself I'll do that. But we haven't have has a good old MoTW ep yet! 7 episodes in and we haven't had a SnD focused ep yet (where Dean isn't moping and Sam isn't...well, I dunno. No idea what Sam is even doing this season..).

But there have been some good eps and I know there will be more. :))

I liked that they dug Dean out of the doldrums last week, but this week was kind of weird. But then again, it was another Duo episode which explains why it had to try and cram too much in again. Since they had Jack disappear it's like they aren't sure what Sam is there for, but hopefully different writers will give both our boys something useful to do. Like, you know - hunting things, saving people, the family business.

For me, this episode felt too busy, and they were cramming too much into this episode, and there was definitely not enough Winchesters!!! Do we need this many baddies? Why kill of Ketch if you're going to bring him back anyway (and in such a lame way!) Like you say if they want to bring back more characters to have more of an ensemble cast, at least bring back some hunters and characters that were more popular (Charlie, Eileen, Ellen, Bobby, Rufus - I could go on).

And yes, I hated they made Sam look stupid, and that having compassion and belief is always bad. This is why if Jack goes 100% darkside, I'll hate it.

I do like Michael, and it was great to see Kevin again, and I do like the idea that the number of Angels are depleting, and the direction was great. So it wasn't all bad.

All the best with the rehearsals, and I hope to see you again. Take care :)

Why kill of Ketch if you're going to bring him back anyway (and in such a lame way!)

Good question! I really thought, with Ketch's death, that was all we'd hear about the BMoL. I think (?) it was fandom's call for him to return maybe? I don't to be honest, but yeah. Looks like they'd rather return characters than great new ones. *shrugs*

This is why if Jack goes 100% darkside, I'll hate it.

Ugh! Don't even mention it! I will be devastated if they make Sam wrong in his beliefs (though happy that Dean eventually came on board re Jack).

I agree Michael was great and lovely to see Osric again. *g*. It was just....SO MUCH!

Rehearsals are definitely interesting (and time consuming).
